With the TOP 4S aerated crawl space formwork, a safe walkable platform is created on which to cast concrete, ensuring an even distribution of loads over the entire surface. This aeration system is typically laid on top of a lean concrete foundation of varying thickness depending on the specific requirements of the project, and after the installation of a suitable electro-welded mesh.

Thanks to its spherical dome shape, the TOP 4S ventilated under-floor cavity allows the structure to work in an arc, guaranteeing maximum mechanical resistance with minimum concrete thickness, and allowing for easy identification of the minimum thickness section for the creation of contraction joints.

Available in different sizes, from 4.5 cm to 55 cm, the building crawl space adapts perfectly to different construction requirements, guaranteeing a customised, high quality solution for every building project.

Building crawl space foundations Top 4S

The ventilated under-floor cavity, also referred to in the construction world as ‘floor cavity or ventilated under-floor cavity formwork’, is the ideal solution for creating floors, both in new construction and in the renovation of civil and industrial buildings.

Placed on a lean concrete foundation, the underfloor cavity formwork provides a solid base on which to cast concrete. This system creates pillars which, after the concrete has cured, ensure an even distribution of loads over the entire surface, ensuring optimal floor strength.

The aeration of the floor cavity acts as a sanitary vacuum, providing a vapour barrier for the floor and, thanks to its aerated structure through piping connected to the outside, the floor cavity contributes to the disposal of Radon gas, ensuring a safe and healthy indoor environment.

Made from recycled plastic material, the polypropylene disposable formwork is a sustainable choice that saves emissions. Its spherical shell shape allows maximum mechanical strength with minimum concrete thickness, which guarantees significant economy in the materials used. This feature also makes it easy to identify the section of minimum concrete thickness, allowing shrinkage cracks to be controlled.

    Under-floor cavity installation method

    The interlocking system of the TOP 4S guarantees quick and easy installation. The elements are arranged from top to bottom and from left to right, completing one row at a time. It is important that the two directional arrows on the element are oriented one upwards and the other to the right, as shown in the reference image.

    Preparation of the rolled gravel subgrade

    Creation of the lean concrete subgrade, varying in thickness depending on overburden and soil bearing capacity

    Positioning of reinforcement iron for foundation beams

    Creation of ventilation holes (for proper functioning, it is recommended that a Ø 125 mm hole be drilled every 3/4 ml, with low entry to the north and high exit to the south) and possible positioning of piping.

    Installation of the FERMOplast accessory (in the case of a single casting of foundation beams and slab).

    Laying of recycled polypropylene disposable formwork.

    The TOP 4S crawl space formwork has undergone rigorous testing at the University of Trieste to ensure its reliability and safety on site. Among the tests performed, the Puncture Resistance test stands out, aimed at verifying the load-bearing capacity of the formwork and guaranteeing maximum safety during use.

    The Decree of the Ministry of Public Works dated 9 January 1996, 7.2.4 – Resistance to punching, states: ‘ In the absence of a continuous lower formwork during the reinforcement and casting phase, blocks of any type must resist a concentrated load, applied to the centre of the upper band, of not less than 1.5 kN (150 Kg)’.

    The punching tests conducted on the TOP 4S formwork provided excellent results, confirming its ability to withstand significant punching loads. These tests certify the robustness and reliability of TOP 4S formwork for construction, guaranteeing maximum safety in the workplace.
